We decided to write this blog with inputs from Patricia Economo who lives Chaga mushrooms at her heart because we have been bombarded with questions from curious buyers and customers who wanted to know the difference between our raw Chaga mushroom powders and the several other Chaga extracts being sold by numerous other brands. 

Why Chaga mushroom?

Chaga is not your typical mushroom that grows out of the ground. It’s a tree mushroom. Popularly known as the king of medicinal mushrooms, Chaga mushrooms have been ranked among the top 5 on the ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) scale, a lab test that attempts to quantify the "total antioxidant capacity" (TAC) of a food by placing a sample of the food in a test tube, along with certain molecules that generate free radical activity and certain other molecules that are vulnerable to oxidation, 

Fresh and raw Chaga mushrooms are known to contain more than 20 polysaccharides and 200 phytonutrients that support a healthy immune system. 

What is the difference between your raw Chaga mushroom powder and the Chaga mushroom extract powder sold by some other brands?

The difference between raw Chaga mushrooms and the extracts is like the difference between Cacao and Instant chocolate. 

Just like Instant chocolate powders retain few benefits of Cacao powder, Chaga extracts also carry few benefits of the raw Chaga mushroom powder. Over-processing robs the Chaga of most of its vitamins and minerals; Only the Betulin extraction from the shell may benefit in the process which is a different product.

As Chagas gain popularity, a lot of Asian and some American suppliers have taken to cultivating Chagas or picking Chagas from lying dead trees, the easy way to meet the demand faster, choosing to ignore the fact that cultivated Chagas or Chagas from dead trees don’t carry half the nutrients that harvested Chagas that grow on live Birch trees do.
